PRIOR TO YOUR SURGERY
- Your surgeon will discuss your surgery
with you and schedule it with the surgery center. Our staff
should call you one day before surgery and give you pre-operative
instructions. (If you haven’t been contacted by 2pm
on the day prior to surgery, please call the surgery center
before 4pm).
- Make sure you gather the following items
to bring with you: 1) identification, 2) health insurance
information, 3) a list of your medications, 4) physician’s
orders, 5) the prescription written by your physician, and
6) lab results or medical records your physician has requested,
if applicable.
- In addition, make sure that you arrange
to have a friend or family member available to drive you
home when you are ready to leave the recovery room.
If you have a change in physical condition
before surgery (such as a cold, fever, persistent cough, sore
throat, or rash), please notify your surgeon prior to surgery.
THE NIGHT BEFORE
- Please do not eat or drink anything
after midnight, the night before your surgery. This includes
gum, water, vitamins or mints, unless you have been given
special instructions. If you do not follow this guideline,
your procedure may have to be delayed or re-scheduled.
- It is recommended that you take all
medications with small sips of water EXCEPT for:
Aspirin or aspirin-like medications
Diet Pills
MAO Inhibitors
All Herbal Medications (including St. John’s Wort,
Herbal Phen-Fen’s, etc.)
Check with your Physician or Anesthesiologist regarding
the use of these medications. You may be instructed to discontinue
use one week to 10 days prior to surgery.
